  • Together with partners at ICRISAT and funded by the Volkswagen Foundation, ZALF will host a summer school on Modelling approaches for climate risk and climate change adaptations in the context of sustainable intensification in semi-arid West Africa. The summer school will provide young researchers from across West Africa and Germany the opportunity to critically reflect on the role of crop modelling tools to assess climate risk and identify climate change adaptations for the region’s farming systems. The summer school will take place in Bamako, Mali in early September 2021. To support with the summer school planning, selection process and logistics, we are offering a part-time position of up to ten hours per week for a period of six months at our location in Müncheberg as Research Assistant (f/m/d)

  • ZALF is looking for a Research Assistant (f/m/d) to develop an integrated bio-economic farm model considering interactions between farmer decision making, climate, soil and crop management and farm incomes and assets. • The Research Area 1 Landscape Functioning of ZALF (RA1) investigates the functioning of agricultural landscapes and aims at contributions to the United Nations’ Sustainability Goals (SDGs) Zero Hunger, Climate Action, and Life on Land. Water movement in soil is of central importance for many soil functions including plant production, water storage and filtering, as well as global matter cycling. Classical concepts of modelling soil water dynamics typically fail when trying to predict preferential flow and contaminant transport in macroporous soils. We invite applications for a full time position of a Postdoctoral Scientist (m/w/d) (temporarily limited for 24 months) in the Working Group Hydropedology of the RA1 of the ZALF at the location in Müncheberg.
